Grant Writer

Hours: At least 10 hours per month (flexible schedule)
Duration: Minimum 6 month commitment
Compensation: Unpaid

Position Summary:

The grant writer is responsible for completing the application process for funding. CEN has identified a number of potential donors for our community development project in the Brazilian Amazon and now needs someone to move the process forward. This role will require writing grant proposals, understanding grant requirements and submitting applications on time. This position is a great way to learn about international donors and the grant-writing process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Write content for grants that meet the specific needs of identified grant prospects identified by CEN. In some cases this will require the adaptation of existing text, and in others, developing it from scratch.

KSAs (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) Needed:

  • Strong writing skills
  • Well organized
  • Self-directed and reliable
  • Experience with grant writing is desired but candidates eager to learn will be considered
  • Commitment to CEN’s mission and strong interest in international development issues

You must be able to commit to a minimum average of 10 hours per month as well as at least 6 months in duration. This is a “virtual” team opportunity which may be performed from home or another location.

Community Empowerment Network's (CEN's) operations are nearly entirely driven by the efforts of volunteers (the only exception is our Field Manager in Santarém, Brazil, who is paid under contract). We are a small organization and so lines of responsibility sometimes overlap, but this provides a terrific opportunity for volunteers to take on a variety of responsibilities and to expand their skills.
