Product Manager
Position Summary:
The Product Manager would take the lead in finding U.S. distributors or partners to sell one or more lines of handmade products crafted by the Amazonian communities where we work. The Product Team Member would provide support to the Product Manager and help with the execution of the Product Team's tasks. Current product lines include:
- Handbags and sandals made by Couro Ecologico, which means "ecological leather" in Portugese. Couro Ecologico is a small worker-owned association in the tiny Amazonian community, Maguary, whose products are made from locally-harvested rubber and are currently being sold in limited amounts in Europe and Sao Paulo.
- Various wood products, including cutting boards, figures and furniture from Oficinas Caboclas. These products are crafted by the residents of the communities where we work, and the wood used is locally-harvested in a sustainable manner.
- Handcrafted seed jewelry from program participants
He or she would supervise the development of and market research for these products. The Products Team Member would report to the Product Manager and be responsible for various assignments related to this team.
We are also looking for individuals to manage the marketing of several products which aren't related directly to our mission but raise funds for our organization, such as our Amazon.com link, our Capitol One® Visa® Credit Card, our online shop and our online savings card.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a product marketing plan, including pricing, distribution options, features, segmentation and more
- Oversee the development of marketing collateral, including brochures and the product marketing
- section on the CEN website
- Contact potential retailers to learn their demands as well as secure orders
- Maintain listing on our online retail site
- Fulfill orders
KSAs (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) Needed:
- Experience in building product distribution channels, preferably of similar products
- Experience or education in marketing
- Copy-writing experience desired for Product Managers that will manage products which aren't related directly to our mission
- Knowledge of market research tools
- Highly creative
- Strong communication and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently - self-directed and self-motivated
- Detail-oriented.
Please be able to commit a minimum average of 10 hours a month.This is a “virtual” team opportunity which you may perform from your home or other location. Preference is given to individuals located in western Washington state or Lower Mainland of British Columbia in order to be able to work closely with the Director and to be able to regularly access the product inventory.
Community Empowerment Network's (CEN) operations are nearly entirely driven by the efforts of volunteers (the only exception is our Field Manager in Santarém, Brazil, who is paid under contract). We are a small organization and so lines of responsibility sometimes overlap, but this provides a terrific opportunity for volunteers to take on a variety of responsibilities and to expand their skills.
