Sana Alam started volunteering for CEN in 2008. She wanted to find a way to give back to the community. Having grown up in India, she had been exposed to poverty up close and understood how difficult life could be when the basics were missing. She sees poverty as a cycle, which continues on through generations, and finds that supporting CEN in its efforts to give knowledge and skill sets to rural communities is a great way to help combat poverty at its roots.
Sana has an MBA in human resources and is currently serving as CEN's volunteer coordinator — her second position with the organization.
She has been instrumental in helping to increase awareness of volunteer opportunities and working with the leads to build successful teams throughout the organization. Since taking over the volunteer coordinator position, Sana has done amazing work. She leads a team of two recruiting specialists, who are working to decrease the number of open positions, increasing the number of sites that CEN is able to find qualified applicants on, and screening volunteer applicants. A large part of her role is helping to facilitate the transition for new team members, ensuring that they are aware of everything they need to know in order to be successful. In addition to this, Sana is leading the staff and volunteer management team in developing training materials to be used by leads and new volunteers.
