Role of Team Manager (the orange ovals)

  • Facilitate discussions and collaboration within the team
  • Create meeting agendas
  • Ensure that working group deliverables are met on time
  • Recruit
  • Develop leadership
  • Liaise with other working groups, the board, and the executive director
  • Work with Director to define quarterly and annual team objectives and milestones
  • Meet regularly with team to assign and manage tasks
  • Build a cohesive, high functioning virtual team by defining and implementing team norms and processes
  • Identify staffing weaknesses and work with the volunteer management team to address these shortcomings
  • Identify staffing needs and work with volunteer management team to define recruiting needs.
  • Interview and onboard new team members

Please note: Although a Team Manager might help implement some operational tasks, their primary focus should be to build and manage the team

The time commitment is approximately two to three hours a week (15 hours per month) once the working group is staffed and operational.

Role of Project Manager (the rectacular boxes in the diagram above)

  • Be the primary point person for a project
  • Interface with group lead and with other groups if needed
  • Work with group lead to recruit needed resources: communicate what is needed to realize project and establish periodic reporting to Working Group Manager
  • Help set objectives and milestones for the project
  • Encourage collaboration on project when necessary
  • Meet regularly with team to assign and manage tasks
  • Build a cohesive, high functioning virtual team by defining and implementing team norms and processes
  • Identify staffing weaknesses and work with the volunteer management team to address these shortcomings
  • Identify staffing needs and work with volunteer management team to define recruiting needs.
  • Interview and onboard new team members

Role of Taskmasters

  • Execute specific tasks
  • Communicate with the project lead on the completion status of the task for which they've signed up

The time commitment is an average of 10 hours per month.
