Arimar Fietosa helped start Couro Ecológico in 1997 after learning about a process to vulcanize natural latex. Today, Couro Ecológico has over 15 members who work at the factory, and has inspired others within the community to start their own ventures.
Arimar has since left Couro Ecológico to start a new venture creating other products out of latex rubber, including rubber balls, dog bones, animal figures, and sandals. He also heads up the commercialization efforts for the Flona Tapajós Verde Cooperative, an artisan's cooperative recently started to promote the production and sale of products manufactured by communities in the Flona Nacional de Tapajós (Tapajós National Forest). As a role model, teacher and marketer, Arimar will play a crucial role in CEN's cCLEAR project.
CEN's Role
CEN is working with Arimar to help him find a market for his products in the United States and plans to offer his sandals for sale on our website.
