Position Summary:
The Website Technical Team member would participate in the development, troubleshooting, programming and maintenance of our organizational website (http://www.endruralpoverty.org). Some of the projects the website Team member would be working on are:
- Building a web-based volunteer management portal hosted on Joomla content management system and migrating data from the old system;
- Deploying a forum (Module or Add in to Joomla CMS);
- Tweaking CMS setting for Search Engine Optimization;
- Searching for dead links; and
- A number of smaller projects, such as modifying existing forms, improving our donations module, adding a YouTube channel to our site, etc.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain technical aspects of the website;
- Customize design elements on our website;
- Evaluate, install and configure several add-ons for Joomla;
- Create forms and tying to mySQL backend;
- Get multimedia content to display on our website like posting audio files to website;
- Execute variety of administrative tasks. For example we need to finish developing a data backup process, need to move data from one service provider (files and mySQL data) to another, and many others. and
- Execute various other tasks as they may come up.
KSAs (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) Needed:
- Strong organization and team management skills (team management experience is preferable);
- Should be able to provide creative solutions;
- Ability to develop and communicate a vision;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
- Self-directed, mature and reliable;
- Meticulous about details; and
- Possess a working knowledge of HTML and CSS. Familiarity with PHP, MySQL, and Joomla (or a similar CMS system) is a bonus.
- While we don't expect you will know Joomla, it's very well documented and so mostly requires someone who is good at problem solving.
You must be able to commit to a minimum average of 10 hours a month. This is a "virtual" team opportunity which may be performed from home or another location.
Community Empowerment Network's (CEN) operations are nearly entirely driven by the efforts of volunteers (the only exception is our Field Manager in Santarém, Brazil, who is paid under contract). We are a small organization and so lines of responsibility sometimes overlap, but this provides a terrific opportunity for volunteers to take on a variety of responsibilities and to expand their skills.
