Position Summary

We would like to build a CEN Chapter in the Bellingham, WA area and need someone to work with the Director to get one started. This could involve building a core group of volunteers and then putting on a modest-sized event to introduce our work to potential supporters in the area,  as well as to raise some additional funds for our programs. Although the exact nature of the event will be determined with the feedback of the local event coordinator, we’re tentatively considering holding an event ranging from 50-100 attendees. The event will last between 90 minutes and 2 1/2 hours, depending upon the size and whether we offer entertainment. 

We are looking for someone who lives in or near Bellingham, WA.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the Fundraising Lead, the Event Coordinator is responsible for:

  • Attracting and recruiting a small core group of supporters
  • Working closely with the Director, who lives in Ferndale, to provide leadership to the core group and help build their involvement in smaller fundraising events
  • Coordinate the planning, developing and managing a modest-sized fundraising event in one of the aboved name cities (or other location outside of Seattle).
  • Working closely with the Board, fundraising manager and marketing staff; and
KSAs (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) Needed
  • Experience planning and executing a major event on a tight budget;
  • Must be able to commit 10-15 hours a month most months prior to the event and more the final weeks prior to the event;
  • Detailed oriented;
  • Very well organized; and
  • Ability to work as part of a team, as well as manage a team.

Please be able to commit a minimum of 20 hours per month in the weeks leading up to the event and 5-10 other months.This is a "virtual" team opportunity which you may perform from your home or other location; however we would like the candidate to be located in the city where the event will be held area.

Community Empowerment Network's (CEN’s) US operations are nearly entirely driven by the efforts of volunteers. We are staffed along the lines of the Open Source development community.

We have several (currently eight) Working Groups, each with its own lead who manages a number of Project Leads. These Project Leads are responsible for building and managing teams of volunteers to execute specific projects. We’re a small organization and so lines of responsibility become a little blurred at time, but this provides a terrific opportunity to take on a variety of responsibilities and to expand your skills.
