Board of Directors Service on our Board of Directors offers a tremendous opportunity to help mold our programs and strategies, the impact of which will be felt for many years. The role of CEN board members is to:
- Preserve the public trust
- Provide a guiding strategy
- Work with the Executive Director to set goals and objectives
- Oversee the organization’s finances
- Actively seek additional resources for the organization
In the immediate term, board members are also expected to pitch in on a limited basis to perform operational tasks. It is anticipated that this will become less and less of a board member's role over the next one-two years. We’re looking for prospective board members to:
- Share our organization’s passion and commitment to empowering communities in developing countries so they can develop themselves
- Contribute annually to the organization, according to their financial ability, as a demonstration of support of our mission and work
- Invite friends and others to our events, and thank donors for their support
- Provide expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- International community development
- One or more of the following program areas
- skills development/education
- micro-finance
- tourism
- product development and/or marketing
- Fundraising
- Marketing
- Staff Development
- Accounting/Finance
- Organizational development and leadership
- Good access to individuals and/or resources which might help us fulfill our mission
Estimated time commitment: a minimum of eight hours on average per month. Board members are also expected to participate (in person or by teleconference) in quarterly board meetings. View our board service commitment pledge (PDF) for more details. Advisory Council The CEN Advisory Council is a consultative group that will assist the full board of Directors in the following ways:
- Endorse CEN by letting the organization use their name and support CEN in the community
- Help mobilize the community, including community leadership, for activities sponsored by the organization
- Consider an annual donation to CEN
- Give input and feedback to the Board regarding various issues
- Participate in the annual fundraising event by attending and/or inviting others to attend the annual fundraising event
- Define their own role/contribution to the organization by sharing expertise, advice, and contacts and by contributing time and talent on a “project” basis
- Optionally attend an annual all-day retreat with the full board/staff, or other meetings
As a member of the CEN Advisory Council you will receive:
- All Board communications, including email, program updates, and newsletters
- Invitations to CEN special events and board meetings (although they will be neither expected nor required to attend)
- Recognition for their service to CEN in information given to the public
Participation on the CEN Advisory Council is a wonderful way to support CEN without committing yourself to attend regular meetings Estimated time commitment: Less than one hour per month For more information on serving on either our Board of Directors or Advisory Council, please contact: Robert Bortner Tel: +1 (206) 329-6244
