Handbag Enthusiast and Market Representative – Puget Sound area (from Olympia, WA to Vancouver, BC)

Time Commitment: Minimum of 10 hours per month
Compensation: Volunteer

Position Summary:  A Handbag Enthusiast and Market Representative is needed to identify, call and visit handbag boutiques and stores selling women’s accessories in the Puget Sound area. This representative will help facilitate orders for Couro Ecologico handbags and gather feedback about consumer trends that can be incorporated into future efforts. These "ecological leather," handbags are handmade by Amazonian artisans overlaying the extract of the latex of the Brazilian rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis ) onto cotton. All proceeds from sales of the purses support the artisans’ families and our ongoing work to strengthen their worker-owned workshop. For more information about the product:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Research and identify stores in the Puget Sound area where this product could be sold
• Contact store owners and/or managers via email, phone and in person to spread awareness about the product, gather feedback and secure orders

KSAs (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) Needed:

• Sales experience desired
• Must be comfortable cold calling businesses
• Self-directed, self-motivated and persistent
• Knowledgeable about women’s handbags
• Access to a reliable vehicle (in order to travel to various locations)

You must be able to commit to a minimum average of 10 hours a month. This is a "virtual" team opportunity which may be performed from home or another location; however, this candidate must be located in the Puget sound area in order to be able visit stores in person.

Community Empowerment Network's (CEN’s) operations are nearly entirely driven by the efforts of volunteers (the only exception is our Field Manager in Santarém, Brazil, who is paid under contract). We are a small organization and so lines of responsibility sometimes overlap, but this provides a terrific opportunity for volunteers to take on a variety of responsibilities and to expand their skills.
